Susan Brefach, Ed.D.

Clinical Neuropsychologist

Dr. Susan Brefach is a licensed clinical psychologist and a certified school psychologist who brings more than 30 years’ experience working with children and families.

Her professional experience has included work in children’s hospitals, mental health clinics, public schools, and (for 20 years) private practice. Before joining NESCA, Dr. Brefach worked as Clinical Director at Neurodevelopment Associates, a private psychology practice that provided comprehensive evaluations, therapy, and ADHD biofeedback training. Her work has focused on children with learning disabilities, developmental disorders, emotional and behavioral difficulties, dyslexia, non-verbal learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, anxiety and school phobia, medical issues and autism spectrum disorders.

In 2014, Dr. Brefach published No Parent Left Behind: Navigating the Special Education Universe, a comprehensive “roadmap” for parents of children with special needs.  This straightforward guide is designed to help parents understand how the special education system “works”, to recognize the skills their children would need at key points in the academic journey, how to get the best diagnostic and remedial services for their children, and how to monitor their progress over time.

Because she believes that even the best evaluation is of limited value without effective follow-up, Dr Brefach works closely with parents and schools to put in place the best programs and specialized instruction so children can make effective progress. She is dedicated to being an advocate for each child she sees, and providing an independent, objective, and comprehensive picture of that child’s learning style and educational needs.
