Pediatric Neuropsychologist
Dr. Hernandez Medellin has been providing neuropsychological and behavioral health services to children, adolescents, and their families in our multicultural South Florida communities since 2018. She also has longstanding experience assisting international families looking for high-quality care in the United States. The services she provides involve comprehensive bilingual and culturally sensitive neurodevelopmental and neuropsychological assessments, comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, and effective care plans, including the provision of appropriate recommendations for school, home, and the community. She specializes in the identification and assessment of neurodevelopmental conditions, such as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in children and adults, developmental and learning disorders, attention-deficit and disruptive behavior disorders, comorbid anxiety, and mood disorders. She also works with children and young adults with TBI/concussions, spinal cord injury, epilepsy, brain tumors, arteriovenous malformation bleeds/strokes, demyelinating diseases, cancer, general medical conditions, and genetic disorders affecting the nervous system.
Dr. Hernandez Medellin has longstanding experience working with multidisciplinary rehabilitation and therapeutic teams, including physical, occupational, speech, recreational, and ABA therapists, as well as medical teams, including physiatrists, psychiatrists, oncologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, pediatricians, nurses, social workers, and case managers. She is also well-versed in liaising with private schools and public school systems, tutors, and executive function coaches, collaborating and making recommendations about accommodations and services to facilitate academic success. This extensive collaboration with various professionals not only ensures a holistic approach to patient care but also reassures her clients about Dr. Hernandez Medellin’s commitment to comprehensive treatment.
Dr. Hernandez Medellin is a native Spanish-speaker, born and raised in Mexico City. She started her undergraduate studies in general psychology at the Jesuit Iberoamerican University, after being actively involved in community outreach and volunteering services with the Jesuit Youth Volunteer Service, SOS Villages, and the Society of St. Teresa of Jesus Mission in Mexico, Cuba, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Costa Rica. This early experience laid the foundation for her unwavering dedication to the field of psychology. She relocated to Miami, Florida, in 2004 and completed her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Carlos Albizu University in 2016. Dr. Hernandez Medellin completed her predoctoral internship at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital in the Pediatric Neuropsychology Track and her two-year postdoctoral residency in Pediatric Behavioral Health and Pediatric Neuropsychology at the same institution. Before transitioning to private practice, she served as an attending Pediatric Neuropsychologist and Pediatric Rehabilitation Psychologist, providing neuropsychological and behavioral health in both inpatient and outpatient settings at Holtz Children’s Hospital, Ryder Trauma Center, and Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital.
In addition to being a pediatric neuropsychologist at NESCA, Dr. Hernandez Medellin currently provides pediatric psychology consultation services to the Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida. Dr. Hernandez Medellin is an active member of the psychology community. Her professional affiliations include the National Academy of Neuropsychology; the American Psychological Association (APA); APA Division 40: Society for Clinical Neuropsychology; and APA Division 54: Society of Pediatric Psychology. She is currently part of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee and the Continuous Education Committee of the American Academy of Pediatric Neuropsychology. She also participates as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric Neuropsychology and holds the Perinatal Mental Health Certification through Postpartum Support International. She is a licensed psychologist in Florida and Massachusetts.
Dr. Hernandez Medellin lives in Miami, Florida, with her Cuban husband and their three children. She loves traveling with her family, participating in her kids’ various school activities (from piano recitals to cheer events), reading, and hosting karaoke at home with family and friends.
